What is voice over IP?
It is an internet telephone. Your voice conversations are digitized
and transmitted over the Internet instead of over the telephone network.

Does the person I'm calling need a Internet phone?
No. You can use Voice over IP to call any telephone.
What do I need?
A high speed Internet connection.
If you use a telephone switch, you will need available CO ports for
each line.
A Voice over IP Gateway - a box - like a modem. One gateway for
every two lines.
What does the equipment cost?
It varies, Rent it for about $46.00 per month. *
Is it good enough for business use?
Yes.
What problems?
Exceptionally high Internet usage can degrade service. If you have
reliable high speed Internet with adequate bandwidth, problems
are very rare.
Are there any other costs?
You can hire someone to do the detail setup work for you.
Can voice over IP be used for incoming calls?
Yes.
Should I drop all my telephone company lines?
You can, but for busy businesses with multiple lines,
retaining
one or more standard line for backup is prudent.
